Apply for Licensure

LSBEP will collect primary sourced documentation to corroborate the information submitted in the online Application to verify compliance with the licensing law and regulations governing the practice of psychology in Louisiana. Only those forms provided by the LSBEP in their original format will be accepted. Forms that are altered or submitted with missing, incomplete, or incorrect information will be rejected and may result in the denial of a license and/or require a new application and fee.

Licensed Psychologist

LP

Requirements Include:

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age and a citizen of the United States (or declare intention to become a citizen).
  • Be of good moral character and not in violation of any of the provisions of Chapter 28 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes.
  • Hold a doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA accredited program, or equivalent.
  • Have supervised internship and postdoctoral experience in Psychology.
  • Examinations Required: Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), Oral Examination and State Jurisprudence Examination.

Licensed Specialist in School Psychology

LSSP

Requirements Include:

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age and a citizen of the United States (or declare intention to become a citizen).
  • Be of good moral character and not in violation of any of the provisions of Chapter 28 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes.
  • Hold a school specialist degree in psychology from a NASP approved program, or equivalent.
  • Have supervised internship and postgraduate experience in school psychology.
  • Examinations Required: PAXIS Examination for School Psychology and State Jurisprudence Examination

Temporary Registration

TR

Requirements Include:

  • Must be a nonresident of Louisiana.
  • Hold a current and unrestricted license or certification for independent practice as a psychologist at the doctoral level, in the state of their residence.
  • Applicant’s state of residence must permit residents of Louisiana a like and similar privilege for temporary practice.
  • Must not be in violation of any of the provisions of Chapter 28 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes.
  • Examinations Required: Jurisprudence Examination

Emergency Temporary Registration

ETR

Requirements Include:

  • Must be a nonresident of Louisiana.
  • Hold a current and unrestricted license or certification for independent practice as a psychologist at the doctoral level, in the state of their residence.
  • Be affiliated with an organized relief effort responding to the declared emergency.
  • Provide services gratuitously.
  • Must not be in violation of any of the provisions of Chapter 28 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes.
